about us:
Moving on as a spin off of the popular South African publication Mountain Biker Magazine, we have decided to move with the times and focus solely on this website: updating the website on a regular basis, and e-mailing crisp and punchy weekly newsletters to our subscriber database.
All the regular features that appeared within Mountain Biker Magazine will be available here, including bike reviews, product tests, rider interviews, health editorials, super cool competitions and regularly updated news on both the local and international racing scene, including industry news.
A BIT OF OUR HISTORY
Started out of a passion for the sport, Mountain Biker Magazine was launched in KwaZulu-Natal in August 2005 as a niche, bi-monthly publication, specifically targeting the ever-growing mountain biking market in South Africa directly. Our primary aim was (and still remains) to lift the profile of mountain biking in South Africa and to create local heroes by giving recognition to those athlete’s that were achieving top results locally and on the world stage! This in turn created a platform for these athletes to provide ever-important coverage for their sponsors, and in turn assisted in generating more sponsor support for mountain biking.
A fast growing sport in South Africa, mountain biking provides an opportunity for families to enjoy the outdoors whilst maintaining their fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Not only were the races and events covered, but also the outdoor and active lifestyle associated with mountain biking.
With vibrant photography, local content and engaging design Mountain Biker Magazine made for excellent reading and we consistently received positive feedback from excited readers when each issue was released. After printing our 30th edition in 2010, we made the tough decision to stop printing a publication and focus on providing a continuous feed of current news to the mountain biking community via our website, specifically but not limited to South Africa. The same high standard of punchy editorial and high quality photos that you have been accustomed to in the magazine will be found on the website.
ABOUT THE EDITOR
After working for my father’s automotive engineering business in Pinetown (KwaZulu-Natal) for 15 years, I (Mylene Loumeau) decided to follow my own passion for my newfound pastime, which had brought about a healthy lifestyle and kept me in shape, whilst having fun. I wanted to share this mountain biking experience with as many people as I could. Disappointed in the apathy received when attempting to promote mountain biking within various press mediums, I decided in Easter 2005 to initiate my own publication, and Mountain Biker Magazine was born in August of that year!
With the changing times, a new inspiration has developed where I can now provide current news as and when it happens, onto the recently upgraded website, launched in December 2010.
ABOUT THE GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
My two younger brothers Daniel and Raymond, whose passion is that of their graphic design work, began creating Mountain Biker Magazine whilst they were still students at DUT in Durban. I was able to see basic word documents and photographs come to life in the form of perfectly designed magazine pages, providing the exact feel that I was trying to achieve to be suitable for the market I intended reaching in the format of Mountain Biker Magazine.
The relationship has been a good one, and in five-and-a-half years Mountain Biker Magazine continued to break new ground with the look and feel of their magazine, often taking the design and layout aspect to new heights in its clever construction.
Dan & Ray too have progressed and are running their own graphic design studio - Lumo Designs, where they continue to shine even on the international stage.
To view their portfolio visit their website at www.lumo.co.za. Contact Dan & Ray for competitive rates for your advert artwork, corporate identity, or any graphic designing requirements - top quality and creativity is guaranteed!
